Abstract

Research into care work has become a matter of significance in the case of Mexico, not only because of gender inequalities arising from the unfair and inequitable organisation of care – in which women are the main care providers – but also as part of the model of the social determinants of health.

In this sense, this analytical essay presents care work as a social indicator of health, given the unjust and inequitable distribution of care services within the context of the feminisation of care work and the social organisation of care; we propose that care policies, grounded in the right to care, act as a social driver of health.

Keywords: Mexico; Care work; Social determinants of health; Policies.
