Submissions
Editorial
These consist exclusively of the opinions of an expert or a group of experts focused on a specific topic related to public health and/or health administration.
Reviewed Articles
Review articles must address a relevant and current topic focused on public health and/or health administration. They must be comprehensive, clearly specifying from the outset the objective, the time period covered, the number of studies analyzed, and the databases or sources consulted.
The journal Horizonte Sanitario accepts and promotes the publication of the following methodological approaches to reviews, which should ideally be based on a previously registered protocol:
Systematic Reviews. Designed to answer a specific research question, generally structured using the PICO format (Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome), and include an assessment of the quality and risk of bias in the studies.
- Required methodological guidelines: Authors must rigorously structure their work according to the PRISMA Declaration guidelines.
Scoping Reviews. Designed to explore and map the available evidence on a broad topic, emerging areas, or knowledge gaps, typically addressing a question in the PCC format (Population, Concept, Context).
- Required Methodological Guidelines: Authors must structure their work according to the PRISMA-ScR (PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines.
- Use of Gray Literature: As a general rule, the journal restricts the use of gray literature (such as theses, blogs, or social media). However, exclusively for Scoping Reviews, the inclusion of heterogeneous information sources will be evaluated provided that their use is strictly justified by the study’s methodology and adheres to the criteria of the evidence mapping protocol.
Format and Length Requirements:
- Length: The manuscript must be between 5,000 and 7,000 words (equivalent to approximately 17–20 to 23–28 pages), counting from the title page through the bibliography.
- Limit on tables and figures: A maximum of six items in total (including tables and figures) is allowed.
- Bibliographic References: A minimum of 50 relevant, up-to-date references (from the last 5 years) is required, formatted strictly according to the Vancouver style. It is mandatory to include the persistent identifier (DOI) for each reference that has one.
Research article
Research studies based on empirical data (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods) that contribute new knowledge or insights related to the fields of public health and health administration.
- Length: Must be between 12 and 18 pages, counting from the title page to the bibliography.
- Limit to tables and figures: A maximum of six tables and/or figures in total is allowed.
- Required methodological guidelines:
ü For observational and epidemiological studies: STROBE criteria.
ü For controlled experimental clinicall trials: the 22 points and the flow diagram of the CONSORT Statement, in addition to adhering to the provisions of the Declaration of Helsinki.
