Data Sharing and Reproducibility Policy
The journal Horizonte Sanitario promotes transparency, scientific rigor, and independent validation of results in research on public health and health administration. In accordance with our open-access model and the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the following guidelines are established:
1. Data Sharing and Repositories. Authors are encouraged to deposit the primary data, computer codes, and supplementary materials supporting the results of their article in public, open, and reliable repositories (such as Mendeley Data, OSF, Dryad, or Figshare). Shared data should preferably have a persistent identifier (DOI) or a permanent link to facilitate independent citation.
2. Data Availability Statement. All submitted manuscripts must include a section titled “Data Availability Statement.” In this section, authors must specify the location and conditions of access to the research materials, indicating whether the data are available in a public repository, whether they can be requested from the corresponding author for justified reasons, or clearly and thoroughly explaining why the data cannot be shared.
Guidelines for maintaining anonymity in peer review: To ensure that this statement does not compromise the journal’s double-blind peer review process, authors must proceed as follows:
During initial submission: If the statement contains institutional information, project names, or data that could identify the authors, it must be submitted separately as a document. Alternatively, the use of temporary and completely anonymous links provided by the repositories created specifically for peer review purposes is permitted.
Upon acceptance of the manuscript: Once the article has been approved for publication, authors are required to update the statement, replacing any temporary anonymous links with the final permanent identifier (DOI or link). This complete statement must be integrated into the final version of the manuscript.
3. Privacy and Ethical Exceptions. Data sharing must not at any time violate prior confidentiality agreements or jeopardize the identity of research subjects. In experimental and observational studies involving humans, data must be strictly anonymized and fully comply with the Declaration of Helsinki, ensuring that informed consent has been obtained and approved by an ethics committee. If the information cannot be shared publicly for these reasons, the author must provide details in the availability statement indicating to which authority requests for access should be sent.
4. Methodological Transparency and Reproducibility. To ensure that other researchers can replicate or build upon the reported findings, authors must describe their analytical and experimental methods in full detail. To this end, strict adherence to the international methodological guidelines required by the journal, depending on the type of study (STROBE, CONSORT, PRISMA, SRQR, or COREQ), is an essential requirement. The journal reserves the right to request additional data or codes during the review process if necessary to verify reproducibility.
