Author Guidelines

Authors who have published in the Horizonte Sanitario journal must wait three issues from the date of publication before submitting another contribution.

To submit an article online and check the status of recent submissions, you must register once and then log in whenever you need to.

Before submitting your article, check that it complies with the following requirements:

  • Authors are required to verify that their manuscript complies with all the requested elements; otherwise, if it does not comply with all the guidelines, it will be returned.
  • The article must not be published or even under review in another journal.
  • The submission file must be in Open Office, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format. If possible, provide URLs for references.
  • The text must be single-spaced, with a font size of 12 points. Italics should be used instead of underlining (except in URLs), and all illustrations, figures, and tables must be correctly placed in the manuscript, regardless of how they are submitted separately.

Submission and delivery of articles:

To achieve greater efficiency in the editorial management of the works, they must comply with the following points:

1- The maximum number of authors allowed is seven per article. The length must be between 12 and 18 pages (from the cover page to the bibliographical references), with a maximum of six tables and/or figures.

2. The cover page should only include the title of the work (in three languages: Spanish, English), which should not exceed 15 words or 90 characters. In addition, include the full names of the authors, their academic degrees, and their institutional affiliation. The person responsible for correspondence should also be indicated, along with their postal address and email address. All authors must include their ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) number and determine each author's contribution to the study, using initials for the authors' names, as shown in the example below:

3. The abstract must be written in Spanish, English, and preferably also in Portuguese, with a maximum length of 250 words, and structured with the following subheadings: Objective, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions. Three to five keywords must be included, also in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, separated by semicolons (;).

4. The text of the article must contain the following sections: introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions, conflict of interest, authors' contributions, funding, acknowledgments (if any), and references. Tables and figures must be included in the document in the appropriate place; they must have a title and be designated with Arabic numerals: Table 1, Table 2, etc., in the same order in which they are mentioned in the text. Illustrations should be graphs, photographs, or diagrams and should be designated with Arabic numerals: Figure 1, Figure 2, etc., each with its own title. Tables and figures should be in grayscale (no color, maximum 6). It is recommended to use images at 300 DPI (dots per inch), which is the standard quality for publications in *.jpg or *.gif format. Footnotes in the table are NOT INCLUDED in the image, but are marked as text with the label [TFN]. Authors are responsible for submitting complete references and their correct citation in the text. References must follow the Vancouver style of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) standards and include the DOI in each one.

5.  Controlled clinical trials, as well as experimental studies submitted for consideration by the journal Horizonte Sanitario, must comply with the 22 points and Flow Chart of the CONSORT Statement, recommended for all journals published in Scielo and available at http://www.consort-statement.org. (CIDRM), and the agreements of the Helsinki Declaration in its 67th version, available at http://www.wma.net. All work submitted must comply with the Code of Ethics and Anti-Plagiarism Policies established by the Journal. The text must be submitted online on the official Open Journal System (OJS) website, for which authors must register at the following address: http://revistas.ujat.mx/index.php/horizonte/user/register

All submitted work must be accompanied by a letter signed by all authors, which includes the following:

  1. Approval of the content of the work (including tables and figures) and the order of appearance of the authors (first and last names must be joined by a hyphen).
  2. The transfer of copyright to Revista Horizonte Sanitario, if the work is accepted.
  3. A statement that the work is original and has not been published, in whole or in part, or submitted for publication, by the authors themselves or by other authors, in any other national or international journal (as stated in the LETTER OF ORIGINALITY AND TRANSFER OF RIGHTS).

Horizonte Sanitario magazine reserves the right to accept or reject each of the works received, as well as to make any editorial corrections it deems necessary, in accordance with the recommendations of the Editorial Board and those responsible for the corresponding editorial section. Originals will not be returned under any circumstances. To avoid plagiarism and guarantee originality, all articles received will be screened by the iThenticate program before the arbitration process begins. The maximum similarity index allowed will be 3%.

Editorial

These are opinions from an expert or group of experts on a specific topic related to public health and/or healthcare administration.

Research article

Observational and epidemiological studies will be structured based on STROBE criteria. Controlled clinical trials, as well as experimental studies submitted for consideration by Health Horizon magazine, must comply with the 22 points and Flow Chart of the CONSORT Statement, recommended for all magazines published in Scielo and which can be found at http://www.consort-statement.org (CIDRM), and with the agreements of the Helsinki Declaration in its 67th version available at http://www..consort-statement.org (CIDRM), and with the agreements of the Helsinki Declaration in its 67th version available at http://www.wma.net. In the case of qualitative studies, they must comply with the SRQR guidelines.

Review articles

Review articles must correspond to a relevant public health topic and indicate the period covered by the work. They must be exhaustive in terms of the objective set, which must be precise and included at the beginning of the text. The number of works considered and the databases or sources consulted must be indicated. They must include an abstract written in Spanish, English, and preferably also in Portuguese, with a maximum length of 250 words, an introduction, methodology (preferably using PRISMA), results, discussion, and conclusions, as well as a summary and keywords in Spanish and English. References must be included according to Vancouver standards. The number of paintings and figures (among them) is a maximum of six; the discussion and conclusions will inform and propose research actions that open new avenues for solving the public health and/or health administration problem.

Include at least 50 references from the last 5 years and preferably articles with a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).

Avoid including gray literature (e.g., theses, websites, blogs, social media).

Privacy Statement

The personal data of authors (names, telephone numbers, and email addresses) entered in this journal will be used exclusively for fines imposed therein and will not be provided to third parties or for other fines.

Editorial Standards

The Horizonte Sanitario journal publishes original scientific articles related to public health sciences and health administration, in the broadest sense. Only original, unpublished scientific research and review articles that have not been considered by other journals will be accepted.

Works published in abstract or extended conference format will not be accepted.

Submission and delivery of articles:

Regarding the data, content, structure, and style of the article, authors should observe the following rules to achieve greater efficiency in the editorial management of the works.

The cover page should contain the following:

  1. Title of the work (in three languages: Spanish, English, and preferably Portuguese), which should not exceed 15 words or 90 characters.
  2. The full names of the authors (first and last names must be joined by a hyphen), their academic degrees, their institutional affiliation, and their ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID).
  3. Name of the person responsible for correspondence, as well as their postal address and email address.

The maximum number of authors allowed is five per article.

  1. The length should be between 12 and 18 pages (from the cover page to the bibliographical references), with a maximum of six tables and/or figures.
  2. The abstract should be written in Spanish, English, and preferably also in Portuguese, with a maximum length of 300 words, and structured with the following subheadings: Objective, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions. Three to five keywords must be included, also in Spanish, English, and preferably Portuguese, separated by (;). Keywords must appear in the Health Sciences descriptors, in the DeCS link.
  3. The text of the letter must contain the sections corresponding to introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgments, conflict of interest (if any), and references.
  4. Each table must be sent separately; they must contain a title and be designated with Arabic numerals: Table 1, Table 2, etc., in the same order in which they are mentioned in the text. Illustrations will be graphs, photographs, or diagrams and will be designated with Arabic numerals: Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.; they will also be sent separately, each with its title. Tables and figures should be in grayscale (not in color). It is recommended to use images at 300 DPI (dots per inch), which is the standard quality for publications. Table footnotes are NOT INCLUDED in the image, but are marked as text with the label [TFN].
  5. Authors are encouraged to write articles with patients or to consider their perspectives in their studies.
  6. Authors are responsible for submitting complete references and citing them correctly in the text in accordance with the standards of the International Committee of Scientific Journal Editors. References must adhere to the Vancouver style of the Committee of Editors of Medical Journal (ICMJE) standards and include the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) in each one. Submission of articles

All submissions must be accompanied by a letter signed by all authors, which must include the following:

  2. Transfer of copyright to Revista Horizonte Sanitario, if the work is accepted.
  3. The contribution of each author to the manuscript must be specified. For example: study design, study analysis, data collection, etc.
  4. Mention that it is an original work that has not been published, in whole or in part, or submitted for publication, by themselves or by other authors, in another national or foreign journal (see format of LETTER OF ORIGINALITY AND TRANSFER OF RIGHTS).

Horizonte Sanitario magazine reserves the right to accept or reject each of the works received, as well as to make any editorial corrections it deems necessary, in accordance with the recommendations of the Editorial Board and those responsible for the corresponding editorial section. Originals will not be returned under any circumstances.

Once the submission has been made on the platform, a file number will be assigned; if modifications are made on the recommendation of the reviewers, the submission must be accessed using the file number assigned to the original submission.

Checklist for preparing submissions

  1. As part of the submission process, authors must verify that their submission complies with all of the items listed below. Submissions that do not comply with these guidelines will be returned to the authors.
  2. The submission has not been previously published or submitted for consideration to any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in the comments to the editor).
  3. The submission file is in Open Office, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format.
  4. Where possible, URLs or DOIs are provided for reference.
  5. The text is single-spaced, 12-point font size, italics are used instead of underlining (except for URLs), and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed in the appropriate places in the text, rather than at the end.
  6. When submitting the text to the peer review section, follow the instructions included in Ensuring Anonymous Review.
  7. Verify that your manuscript complies with the guidelines established for the type of research conducted (see tools section): COREQ (qualitative research), STROBE (cross-sectional studies), PRISMA (review studies), and CONSORT (clinical trials).

Level of authorship participation.

To indicate the authors' participation, from the conceptualization of the research to the writing of the article, the CRediT taxonomy (A Comprehensive Taxonomy for Authorship Attribution) will be used, which presents fourteen roles and their definitions. Using these criteria, authors must indicate the initials of their names in each of the roles in which they participated.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published nor has it been submitted for consideration by any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in the editor's comments).
  • The sending file might be in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF or WordPerfect format.
  • Wherever possible, URLs are provided for references.
  • The text has a single line space, font size 12 points, italics are used instead of underlining (except for URLs), and all illustrations, figures and tables are placed in the appropriate places in the text, instead of the end.
  • The text meets the stylistic and bibliographic conditions included in guidelines for the author, in about the journal.
  • In the case of sending the text to the peer review section, follow the instructions included in ensure an anonymous evaluation.

Editorial

They are the opinions of an expert or group of experts on a specific topic on public health and/or health administration.

Reviewed Articles

The reviewed articles must correspond to a relevant public health issue and indicate the work covered period. They will be exhaustive in terms of the objective, which should be precise and included at the beginning of the text. The number considered works and the bases or sources consulted will be indicated; They will include introduction, discussion and conclusions, as well as summary and keywords in Spanish and English. References must be included according to Vancouver standards. The number of table and figures (between them) is six at most; the discussion and conclusions will base and propose research actions that open new paths to the solution of the public health problem and/or the health administration.

Research article

The controlled clinical trials as well as experimental studies submitted for the consideration of the Horizonte Sanitario journal should be adjusted to the 22 points and the Flow Diagram of the CONSORT Declaration, recommended for all journals published in Scielo and can be found at http: / /www.consort-statement.org (CIDRM), and to the agreements of the declaration of Helsinski in its version number 67 available in http://www.wma.net.
