Objective: To synthesize the available scientific evidence on the relationship between exposure to community violence and the occurrence of teenage pregnancy.
Materials and Methods: A systematic review was conducted in the following databases: PubMed, Web of Science, SciELO, VHL, and EBSCOhost from 2019 to 2024 in English, Spanish, and Portuguese to answer the question: What is the relationship between community violence and teenage pregnancy? Synonyms of the keywords “Teenage pregnancy; Adolescent; community violence; social problem” were used, and a filter was set for observational studies. The screening was performed independently by two researchers.
Results: 238 studies were named, four articles met the inclusion criteria, which showed that a high percentage of adolescents are exposed to community violence and are at greater risk of pregnancy.
Conclusions: Community violence was associated with teenage pregnancy and early onset of sexual activity in adolescents. However, further studies are needed to confirm this relationship.
Keywords: Pregnancy in Adolescence; Adolescent; Social Problems; Exposure to Violence; Violence.
