Author Guidelines

Important Considerations

Horizonte Sanitario publishes original, unpublished scientific articles related to Public Health Sciences and Health Administration. Previously published works will not be accepted, nor will those currently under review by other journals. Submission of documents presented as abstracts or in extended conference formats is strictly prohibited. Authors are required to ensure that their manuscript complies with all the required elements; failure to comply with any of these guidelines will result in the immediate return of the manuscript prior to the peer review process.

Ethical Commitments and Anti-Plagiarism

  • Integrity: All work must adhere to the journal’s Code of Ethics and Anti- Plagiarism Policies.
  • Research Involving Human Subjects: Experimental studies must comply with the provisions of the Declaration of Helsinki (version 67).
  • Plagiarism Detection: The journal uses the iThenticate program to screen all submitted articles.
  • Similarity Index: The maximum allowed similarity index is 3%.

Publication Frequency and Restrictions

  • Waiting Period: Authors who have previously published in the journal must wait for a period of 3 issues (counted from the publication date of their last article) before submitting a new contribution.
  • No Fees: The journal does not charge article processing charges (APCs) or manuscript submission fees.

Copyright and Privacy

  • License: Works are published under the Creative Commons Attribution- NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license. The journal retains economic rights and exclusive rights for editing and dissemination.
  • Privacy: Personal data (names, email addresses, phone numbers) will be used exclusively for editorial purposes and will not be disclosed to third parties.

 

Types of Articles Accepted

Original Article

Research studies based on empirical data (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods) that contribute new knowledge or insights related to the fields of public health and health administration.

  • Length: Must be between 12 and 18 pages, counting from the title page to the bibliography.
  • Limit to tables and figures: A maximum of six tables and/or figures in total is allowed.
  • Required methodological guidelines:  

ü  For observational and epidemiological studies: STROBE criteria.

ü For controlled experimental clinicall trials: the 22 points and the flow diagram of the CONSORT Statement, in addition to adhering to the provisions of the Declaration of Helsinki.

ü  For qualitative studies: SRQR or COREQ guidelines.

Review Article

They must address a relevant public health issue. They must be comprehensive, specifying the objective, the time period covered, the number of studies analyzed, and the databases consulted. Gray literature, such as theses, blogs, or social media, should not be included.

  • Length: A length of 5,000 to 7,000 words is required (equivalent to approximately 17–20 to 23–28 pages), including tables and references.
  • Limit to tables and figures: A maximum of six in total.
  • Bibliographic references: A minimum of 50 references from the last 5 years is required, preferably with their respective DOI.
  • Required methodological guidelines: The use of the PRISMA guideline is strongly recommended.

 Editorial

These consist exclusively of the opinions of an expert or a group of experts focused on a specific topic related to public health and/or health administration.

 

Manuscript Preparation Technical

 Format and Style

  • Files: Word, Open Office, RTF, or WordPerfect.
  • Font: 12-point Times New Roman, single-spaced.
  • Style: Use italics for emphasis; avoid underlining (except for URLs).
  • Authorship: Maximum of six authors per article.

Front Page Structure

  • The title and author information must appear only on the title page to ensure blind review.
  • Title: In Spanish, English, and preferably Portuguese. Maximum 15 words or 90 characters.
  • Identification: Full, academic, institutional affiliation, and ORCID required.
  • Correspondence: Complete contact information for the author (mailing address and email).

Abstract and Keywords

  • Structure:  Abstract  structured (Objective, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusions) in Spanish, English, and preferably Portuguese.
  • Length: 250 to 250 words.
  • Keywords: 3 to 5 keywords validated in the DeCS (Descriptors in Health Sciences) database, separated by semicolons (;).

Main Text and Figures

Required Sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, Conflict of Interest, and References.

  • Tables and Figures: Maximum of 6 in total:
  • They must be submitted as separate files and also inserted into the text at the appropriate location.
  • Format: Grayscale, 300 DPI quality (.jpg or .gif).
  • Notes: Do not include text within the image; use the [TFN] tag for footnotes.

Bibliographic References

  • Guidelines: Strict adherence to the Vancouver style in accordance with the guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
  • DOI Requirement: It is essential to include the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) in every bibliographic entry that has one.

 

Required Supporting Documentation

Letter of Originality and Transfer of Rights

  • The official form must be downloaded, signed by all authors, and submitted via OJS. It must certify:
  • Approval of the content and order of appearance.
  • Transfer of economic rights to the journal.
  • Declaration of unpublished status (not published in whole or in part).

Declaration of Authorship (CRediT Taxonomy)

Individual contributions must be defined using the initials of the authors’ names in the 14 CRediT roles.

Example: Conceptualization: P.A.B.C., P.J.E.L.; Data curation: P.A.B.C.; Formal analysis: P.A.B.C., P.J.E.L.; Research: P.A.B.C.; Original Drafting: P.A.B.C., P.J.E.L.; Revision and Editing: F.M.L.M.

Author Identification

Surname Format: The paternal and maternal surnames must be joined by a hyphen (e.g., García-Mendoza).

 

Online Submission

Process Registration

Manuscripts are accepted exclusively through the official platform. The author must register once at: http://revistas.ujat.mx/index.php/horizonte/user/register.

Final Checklist

Before loading your shipment, make sure to:

✔ The manuscript is unpublished and is not under concurrent review.

✔ The authors’ last names are joined by a hyphen.

✔ The file complies with the format (12 pt, single-spaced, italics).

✔ Tables and figures (maximum 6) are attached separately in grayscale.

✔ The keywords have been verified in DeCS.

✔ The signed Letter of Originality and Transfer of Rights is attached.

✔ The DOI is included in the references (Vancouver/CIDRM style).

 

Follow-up and Revisions

After submission, the system assigns a reference number. If revisions are requested following peer review, the author must upload the new version using the same original reference number to maintain the review history.

Blind Review

To ensure double-blind peer review, authors must remove any identifying information from the main file, following the instructions for "Ensuring Anonymous Review" available in the OJS system.

Editorial

They are the opinions of an expert or group of experts on a specific topic on public health and/or health administration.

Reviewed Articles

The reviewed articles must correspond to a relevant public health issue and indicate the work covered period. They will be exhaustive in terms of the objective, which should be precise and included at the beginning of the text. The number considered works and the bases or sources consulted will be indicated; They will include introduction, discussion and conclusions, as well as summary and keywords in Spanish and English. References must be included according to Vancouver standards. The number of table and figures (between them) is six at most; the discussion and conclusions will base and propose research actions that open new paths to the solution of the public health problem and/or the health administration.

Research article

The controlled clinical trials as well as experimental studies submitted for the consideration of the Horizonte Sanitario journal should be adjusted to the 22 points and the Flow Diagram of the CONSORT Declaration, recommended for all journals published in Scielo and can be found at http: / /www.consort-statement.org (CIDRM), and to the agreements of the declaration of Helsinski in its version number 67 available in http://www.wma.net.

Horizonte Sanitario Journal retains the economic rights to the contributions. It acquires the exclusive right to use the document for publication, distribution, preservation, and so on, in any medium and for the period of time stipulated by local laws governing the publication’s operations.
