Objective: To describe the emotional coping strategies of nurses in community care of children with seizures.
Materials and methods: A qualitative phenomenological design was used, applying semi-structured interviews to five nursing professionals through a guiding question protocol. Data was analyzed through coding, subcategories, and categories, following the constant comparison method.
Results: The analysis revealed two main categories, the first related to emotions experienced by nursing professionals, including fear, anxiety, nervousness, and frustration, which led to the transformation of coping styles from avoidance, passivity, and denial to active and empathetic coping; and the second linked to the strategies employed in care, highlighting emotional and spiritual support, enhancement of self-esteem, strengthening of coping mechanisms, and the promotion of faith and hope among families and the community.
Conclusions: The emotional coping of nursing professionals in community care of children with seizures is characterized by the implementation of strategies that allow adaptation to this complex situation, favoring both the emotional management of the professional and the quality of care provided, with an empathetic and humanized approach.
Key words: Coping, Emotional regulation, Community health nursing; Seizures.
