Evaluation of an interprofessional training internship in undergraduate: students' experiences

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate an interprofessional training practice through the experiences of nursing students. Materials and methods: The study was conducted using an exploratory qualitative design. The participants were 25 undergraduate nursing students of both sexes, aged between 22 and 24 years. An interprofessional training experience was conducted between medical and nursing students. Data were collected through three focus groups and one individual interview, which were recorded and transcribed verbatim prior to analysis. The information was processed using axial coding and categorization. Results: Five categories and nine subcategories were obtained: 1) program dissemination, 2) student motivation, 3) clinical cases as a focus for interprofessional practice, and 4) personal skills and institutional support.

Conclusions: The interprofessional training program contributed to the development of fundamental positive experiences in the acquisition of disciplinary and transversal competencies, increased safety and autonomy related to the mastery of clinical protocols to strengthen diagnostic capacity.
